I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Ruby in zoisite is one of nature’s most visually arresting combinations. The deep, saturated red of ruby; corundum coloured by chromium, occurs naturally within a matrix of vivid green zoisite, the two minerals forming together in the same rock over millions of years. The contrast is immediate and striking: a red that is warm and intense against a green that is almost electric, the two colours existing in the same stone as if placed there deliberately.

The faceting of the stones catches and returns light across both colours simultaneously, the cut surfaces creating a shifting play of red and green that changes with every movement. The distribution of ruby within the zoisite matrix varies naturally, meaning each pair of earrings carries its own particular balance of colour.

Ruby is one of the most powerful stones in the mineral world. Associated with the root chakra, it is said to carry a deeply vitalising energy, strengthening life force, encouraging passion and motivation, and supporting courage in the face of difficulty. It is a stone of the heart in its most active sense: not quiet or contemplative, but alive, engaged, and fully present. It has been prized by warriors, royalty, and healers across cultures for thousands of years, and its energy remains as direct and immediate as its colour.

Zoisite brings a complementary energy, associated with growth, vitality, and the heart chakra, it is said to support the transformation of negative energy into positive, encouraging trust in one’s own path and a deep connection to the natural world. Together, ruby and zoisite offer a pairing of fire and growth, the courage to act, and the vitality to sustain it.

These earrings feature faceted ruby in zoisite stones, hand wire wrapped in sterling silver wire and hung from sterling silver V-shaped ear wires, a clean, elegant form that allows the stones to move freely and catch the light.
