Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Rhodonite is a manganese silicate mineral, its colour a distinctive rose to deep pink, typically threaded with the black veining of manganese oxide that forms as the stone weathers — a contrast that is entirely its own and makes each piece unmistakable. Found primarily in Russia, Australia, Sweden, and parts of South America, it has been used as an ornamental stone for centuries, prized for the warmth and depth of its colour and the graphic quality of its black matrix. Faceted into small beads, the pink catches the light with a warmth and richness that is both striking and wearable.

Rhodonite is associated with the heart chakra, but where rose quartz speaks to gentle self-love and pink tourmaline to emotional courage, rhodonite carries a more grounded, purposeful energy — one of compassion in action, of emotional healing that moves outward as well as inward. It is said to support the healing of emotional wounds, to encourage forgiveness and the release of resentment, and to bring a steady, nurturing warmth to those who wear it. It is also considered a stone of purpose and passion — supporting those who want to act from the heart with clarity and conviction. A stone of warmth and intention.

These earrings feature 30mm sterling silver hoops with small faceted rhodonite beads wrapped by hand along the length of the hoop in sterling silver wire. The effect is one of continuous, warm colour: the rose and deep pink of the rhodonite running the circumference of the hoop, the black veining visible in each bead, the silver wire holding everything in place with a precision that can only be achieved by hand. The cool, clear tone of the sterling silver sits cleanly against the warm pink of the rhodonite — a contrast that is both modern and refined. These are earrings that catch the light with every movement.

The hoop is one of the oldest and most enduring forms in jewellery, worn across cultures and centuries, from ancient Egypt to the present day. Unbroken and continuous, it carries a quiet symbolism of wholeness and return — a resonance that feels particularly apt for a stone associated with the healing of the heart. It is also simply one of the most flattering shapes an earring can take, framing the face without demanding attention and working as well with a simple white shirt as it does with an evening dress. Some forms never go out of style because they were never really in it.
