I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Blue kyanite is one of the most distinctive stones in the mineral world. A silicate mineral formed under the high pressure and temperature conditions of metamorphic rock, it is characterised by its bladed, elongated crystal habit, long, flat crystals that grow in parallel formations, their surfaces carrying a silky, almost metallic lustre. Its colour ranges from a pale, icy blue to a deep, saturated cornflower, often with a subtle variation in tone along the length of the crystal, darker at the core and lighter at the edges, a quality that gives it a depth and movement that few other blue stones can match. Unlike most minerals, kyanite has two distinct hardness values depending on the direction of the crystal: harder across the blade, softer along it, a property known as anisotropy, and one that makes it both a challenge and a reward for the lapidary who works with it.

Blue kyanite is associated with the throat and third eye chakras and is considered one of the few stones that neither accumulates nor requires cleansing of negative energy. It is said to align all the chakras automatically and immediately, creating a clear, open channel of energy through the body. It is a stone of communication, truth, and inner clarity, one that supports honest expression, sharpens intuition, and encourages the kind of calm, centred awareness from which clear decisions emerge. It does not impose; it clarifies.

This bangle features two blue kyanite stones set in sterling silver, positioned opposite each other at the open ends of the band. The open-ended form serves a dual purpose: it is the setting for the stones, each held in its own silver mount at the tip of the band, and it is also what makes the bangle fully adjustable, the gap allowing the band to be gently widened or narrowed to sit comfortably across a range of wrist sizes.  The cool, precise tone of the sterling silver sits in close harmony with the blue of the kyanite, a pairing that feels both considered and quietly striking.
