I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Aquamarine is the blue variety of beryl, its colour ranging from the palest ice blue to a deeper, more saturated sea green-blue, the result of iron present during crystallisation. It is found in pegmatite formations across Brazil, Pakistan, Madagascar, and parts of Africa, and has been prized for millennia, worn by sailors as a talisman of safe passage, and by healers as a stone of clarity and calm.

High grade aquamarine is selected for exceptional clarity and depth of colour — stones with a vibrancy and translucency that reward close attention, and that look quite different from lower grade material.

Aquamarine works primarily with the throat chakra, supporting clear, honest, and compassionate communication. It is said to help those who struggle to find the right words, to speak their truth without fear, and to listen with the same openness. It carries a cooling, clarifying energy that is thought to reduce stress and quiet an overactive mind, encouraging a sense of flow and ease rather than resistance.

It is also associated with the water element and the ocean; vast, deep, and unhurried and is said to support emotional release, helping to dissolve old grief or feelings that have been held too long beneath the surface.

A stone for those who are navigating change, seeking clarity, or simply in need of a quieter mind.

This piece features a high grade faceted aquamarine rondelle flanked by sterling silver accent beads, suspended from a 20mm sterling silver hoop. The accent beads frame the stone with a quiet symmetry, drawing the eye inward to the aquamarine as it catches the light and shifts with movement. The rondelle cut maximises the stone’s natural translucency, allowing light to pass through and reveal the depth of colour within.

Worn as a necklace, the hoop sits close to the collarbone, a simple, considered piece that works as well alone as it does layered.
