I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Amethyst is a variety of quartz, its colour the result of iron impurities within the crystal lattice, shifted by natural irradiation into the violet range that has made it one of the most recognised and sought-after gemstones in the world. It is found across a wide geography, from the great geode deposits of Brazil and Uruguay to the mines of Zambia and the alluvial gravels of Sri Lanka, and its colour ranges from the palest lilac to a deep, saturated purple that approaches the richness of fine tanzanite. It has been worn by royalty, clergy, and healers across cultures for millennia, a stone whose beauty and meaning have remained consistent across time and tradition.

Amethyst is associated with the crown and third eye chakras, with clarity of mind, spiritual awareness, and the quieting of mental noise. It is said to support calm and focus, to ease anxiety and restlessness, and to bring a quality of clear, unhurried perception to those who wear it. It has long been associated with protection and sobriety, with the ability to transmute lower energies into higher ones, and it carries a quality of gentle authority: composed, luminous, and deeply considered.

This cocktail ring centres on a single amethyst of 4–6 carats, shaped in a cushion cut; a square form with softly rounded corners and a brilliant faceting pattern that gives the stone a warm, luminous presence on the hand. The cushion cut is one of the most romantic of all cuts, combining the clean geometry of a square with a softness that draws light into the stone and returns it with depth and richness. Bold enough to command attention, considered enough to wear with intention. Set on a polished sterling silver adjustable band, the cool clarity of the silver complementing the violet of the amethyst with an understated elegance.
