I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

A pair of heart-shaped AAA grade tanzanite studs, each stone set in a sterling silver surround, worn close to the ear with a quiet intensity. Small in scale, extraordinary in colour.

Tanzanite is one of the rarest gemstones on earth. Found in only one place in the world, a small area of northern Tanzania at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, it was discovered in 1967 and has been prized ever since for a quality that no other stone quite replicates: a trichroic nature that causes it to display different colours depending on the angle of the light. Viewed from one direction, it appears a deep, saturated blue; from another, a rich violet-purple; from a third, a warm burgundy. In faceted stones, these colours shift and blend as the stone moves, creating an inner life that is entirely its own. AAA grade tanzanite represents the upper tier of the grading scale, selected for exceptional colour saturation, clarity, and the intensity of its trichroic shift, stones in which the blue-violet is vivid and consistent, and the play of colour is immediate rather than subtle.

Tanzanite is associated with the third eye and crown chakras. It is considered a stone of transformation, spiritual insight, and elevated awareness, one that is said to support those navigating significant change, deepening intuition, and encouraging a calm, open perspective from which new understanding can emerge. It is also associated with compassion and truth, and with the ability to communicate from a place of genuine inner knowing.

Each stud centres on a single faceted heart-shaped tanzanite, the cut drawing out the full depth of the stone's trichroic colour and allowing the blue-violet to shift with every movement. Set in a sterling silver surround that holds the stone securely while keeping its full face open to the light, and mounted on sterling silver earposts. Sterling silver throughout.
