I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Blue lace agate is one of the gentler stones in the mineral world. A banded variety of chalcedony, it forms in layers of silica deposited slowly within volcanic rock over millions of years, its colour a soft, hazy blue with delicate white banding that moves through the stone like cloud or breath. The effect is quiet and considered, nothing about blue lace agate demands attention, and that is precisely its quality.

It is a stone long associated with calm communication and the easing of anxiety. Blue lace agate is said to work with the throat chakra, supporting the expression of thoughts and feelings with clarity and gentleness rather than force. It is thought to slow the mind, soften tension held in the body, and encourage a kind of stillness that is difficult to manufacture and easy to lose. For those who carry stress in their voice or their words, it is a stone worth wearing close.

This piece features a hand-selected blue lace agate stone, wire-wrapped by hand in gold vermeil; sterling silver with a thick layer of 18 carat gold, the warm tone of the setting drawing out the cool, hazy blue of the stone without competing with it. The wire follows the natural contours of the stone, holding it securely while allowing its full face to remain visible.

Finished on an 18 inch gold vermeil fine curb chain, the pendant sits beautifully at the collarbone, a length that works well alone or as part of a layered arrangement.

Gold vermeil is chosen here for its quality and its longevity, a step above plated jewellery and a considered alternative to solid gold.
