I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Kunzite is a stone of rare and particular beauty. A variety of spodumene, it forms in granitic pegmatites alongside tourmaline and morganite, its colour is a soft, luminous pink with lilac undertones, the result of trace amounts of manganese within its crystal structure. The depth of colour varies from stone to stone, from the palest blush to a more saturated rose, and shifts subtly depending on the light and the angle.

It is a stone associated with the heart, not in a sentimental sense but in the way that it is said to open and soften. Kunzite is thought to encourage emotional honesty, to ease anxiety, and to support a quiet kind of self-compassion that is difficult to manufacture and easy to lose. It works gently, and that is part of its nature.

This piece centres on a single kunzite orb, hand polished into a perfect sphere to draw out the stone's natural translucency and the subtle shifts in tone that make each one entirely its own. The rounded form catches light from every angle, revealing the depth within.

Set in Gold Vermeil; sterling silver with a thick layer of 24K gold, the warm tone of the setting draws out the lilac pink of the stone without competing with it. Gold vermeil is chosen here for its quality and its longevity, a step above plated jewellery and a considered alternative to solid gold.

Finished on an 18 inch gold vermeil fine curb chain with a single Gold Vermeil accent bead, the necklace sits beautifully and works well alone or as part of a layered arrangement.
