Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Ethiopian opal is unlike any other stone. Formed in volcanic ash beds in the Wollo Province of northern Ethiopia, it holds water within its structure, which gives it a particular sensitivity and a quality of light that shifts as you move. The play of colour is not on the surface but within, caught in layers of silica that diffract light into flashes of amber, coral, green, and blue depending on the stone and the angle.

It is a stone long associated with emotional depth and amplification. Ethiopian opal is said to intensify what is already present; creativity, passion, and feeling, while gently encouraging the release of what no longer serves. It works with the sacral and crown chakras, bridging the emotional and the spiritual, and is thought to support those moving through periods of change or creative renewal.

These drop earrings feature natural Ethiopian opal stones set in gold vermeil; sterling silver with a thick layer of 18 carat gold.  The drop length allows the opal to catch the light as you move, which is where this stone is at its most alive.

A piece that rewards attention. Worn daily or saved for the moments that matter.
