Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Deep red against soft white. The warmth of a dying fire held against the cool of a winter moon. This is a bracelet of quiet contrasts, and it is all the more compelling for them.

Garnet opens the piece with a colour that demands attention. One of the oldest gemstones in continuous human use, worn by ancient Egyptians as a stone of life and vitality, carried by Roman soldiers as a talisman of protection, and set into the jewellery of medieval courts across Europe, garnet has never gone unnoticed. Its deep, rich red  produced by iron and manganese within the crystal structure, ranges from a warm, brownish crimson to a pure, saturated scarlet, and it carries a depth of colour that intensifies in low light rather than fading. Associated with the root and heart chakras, it is considered a stone of passion, courage, and regenerative energy, one that grounds the wearer in the present while stoking the inner fire that drives creative and personal ambition. It is a stone for those who wish to feel more fully alive.

White moonstone brings the counterpoint. A variety of feldspar, it displays adularescence; the phenomenon by which light scatters between microscopic layers within the stone to produce a floating, billowing glow that appears to move beneath the surface. In white moonstone, this inner light is cool and luminous, shifting between silver and pale blue depending on the angle of the light, like the surface of still water under a full moon. Associated with the crown chakra and the energy of the moon, it is considered a stone of intuition, emotional balance, and the kind of receptive, open awareness that allows new understanding to emerge. Where garnet ignites, moonstone illuminates and together they form a pairing of rare and considered balance.

Sterling silver accent beads complete the piece, their cool, precise tone sitting in close harmony with the moonstone and providing a clean, considered finish that lets the depth of the garnet speak for itself.
