Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Garnet is one of the oldest gemstones in continuous use, worn and traded across cultures from ancient Egypt to Rome to the courts of medieval Europe. It is a silicate mineral found in a wide range of colours, but it is the deep, saturated red of almandine and pyrope garnet that has defined its reputation: a colour that sits somewhere between burgundy and blood, rich and warm and entirely its own. High grade stones are selected for exceptional clarity and depth of colour, stones that catch and refract the light with an intensity that reads as genuinely precious.

Garnet is associated with the root chakra, with vitality, passion, and a grounded, embodied sense of self. It is said to energise and revitalise, to support courage and commitment, and to bring warmth and steadiness to those who wear it. It has long been associated with love and devotion, given as a gift of deep feeling, worn as a talisman of connection. A stone with presence.

Freshwater pearls are formed within freshwater mussels, each one the result of years of slow, layered growth around an irritant within the shell. Their surface has a warmth and depth that is entirely different from glass or resin: a soft, organic glow that has been associated with purity, elegance, and quiet luxury for thousands of years. Paired with the deep red of garnet, the contrast is one of the most considered in jewellery, warmth against cool, depth against light, the ancient against the timeless.

These earrings take the silhouette of a hoop but fasten as a stud, a construction that combines the visual impact of a hoop with the security and comfort of a stud fitting. A sterling silver stud post passes through the ear, with a sterling silver ball sitting at the front. From that ball, a wire of high grade garnet beads runs in a continuous arc, a central freshwater pearl placed at the midpoint of the curve with sterling silver accent beads.  The wire continues around until it meets the butterfly fastener at the back, completing the loop and creating the hoop shape from the front. The deep red of the garnet and the soft lustre of the pearl sit together in the arc, the cool silver of the accent beads and the setting giving the whole piece a clean, refined finish. These are earrings that read as a hoop but wear as a stud, a considered piece of construction that is as practical as it is beautiful.
