I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Few stones carry their own light the way golden rutile in quartz does. This spherical AAA grade pendant is one of those pieces that is genuinely difficult to walk past, the rutile needles suspended within the clear quartz like threads of gold frozen in time, shifting with every movement. There is nothing manufactured about it. What you see inside the stone grew there, over millions of years, and no two are the same.

Golden rutile in quartz is clear or lightly smoky quartz through which fine needles of golden rutile have grown during the stone’s formation; a natural phenomenon that cannot be replicated or manufactured. The rutile inclusions range from sparse, hair-fine threads to dense, intersecting formations that fill the stone with a warm, metallic light. AAA grade is selected for the quality and clarity of the host quartz, the richness and density of the rutile inclusions, and the precision of the cut18-inch stones in which the needles are vivid and evenly distributed, with no cloudiness or fracturing to interrupt the interior. The spherical form gives the pendant a satisfying completeness, the rutile visible from every angle as the piece moves.

Golden rutile in quartz is associated with the solar plexus and crown chakras, bridging the energetic and the spiritual. The quartz amplifies intention and clarity, while the golden rutile is said to bring vitality, optimism, and a quality of illuminated thinking, the kind of energy that cuts through confusion and restores a sense of direction. It is associated with manifestation, with the alignment of thought and action, and with the confidence to move forward with purpose. It is also considered a stone of protection, the rutile needles said to deflect negative energy while keeping the wearer’s own field clear and strong.

The chain is 18 inch gold vermeil; sterling silver with a thick layer of 24k gold bonded to the surface, giving it the warmth and lustre of solid gold with lasting durability. It sits at the collarbone, a length that lets the pendant move freely and be seen.
