Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Green amethyst, known in the gem trade as prasiolite is a variety of quartz whose colour sits somewhere between pale sage and deep forest, depending on the stone and the light. It forms through the natural or heat-assisted transformation of amethyst or yellow quartz, the iron within the crystal shifting under temperature to produce its distinctive, cool green. Faceted, it reveals a different quality entirely: the cut surfaces draw light through the stone and return it with a clarity and depth that the raw form cannot achieve. The colour shifts as the stone moves, from pale and luminous in direct light to a richer, more saturated green in shadow.

Green amethyst occupies an interesting space in crystal lore, it carries the clarity and amplifying qualities of quartz alongside properties associated with the heart chakra. It is said to encourage emotional balance, compassion, and a grounded sense of abundance. Where purple amethyst calms the mind, green amethyst is thought to open the heart, supporting a quiet confidence and a connection to the natural world that feels steady rather than forced.

The teardrop is one of the most elegant forms in jewellery. Its elongated silhouette draws the eye downward, creating a sense of movement and grace, and the gentle taper of the form suits a faceted stone particularly well, the widest point at the base allowing the full breadth of the cut to catch the light as the pendant moves.

This pendant features a faceted green amethyst teardrop set in sterling silver, the setting chosen to complement the cool, clear tone of the stone without competing with it. It is suspended on an 18 inch sterling silver fine curb chain, a lightweight, refined length that sits at the collarbone and allows the pendant to move naturally with the wearer.

A piece with a quiet, considered elegance.
