Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Carnelian is one of the oldest stones in human history. Worn by ancient Egyptians as a symbol of life and protection, carried by Roman soldiers for courage in battle, and prized across cultures for thousands of years, it is a stone with a long memory and a particular kind of presence.

Its colour ranges from pale apricot to deep burnt orange, the warmth drawn from iron oxide within the stone. Carnelian forms in layers, which means no two pieces are identical with each one holds its own depth of tone, its own quality of light, its own arrangement of banding. This particular stone is especially well-banded, its layers distinct and richly coloured, the kind of natural patterning that makes the crescent moon carving all the more striking. The curved form draws the eye along the full length of the stone, allowing the banding to be read in full, each layer a record of the conditions in which the carnelian formed.

In crystal healing, carnelian is associated with vitality, courage, and creative energy. It works with the sacral and root chakras, supporting a sense of confidence and forward momentum that feels embodied rather than forced. It is said to stimulate and ground simultaneously, encouraging action without recklessness, and motivation without anxiety. It is a stone for those who wish to feel more fully alive, more present in the body, and more connected to their own creative power. It is also considered a stone of protection, one of the oldest talismans known, and has been used to ward against negative energy and misfortune across many traditions.

The crescent moon carving is a form of quiet symbolism. One of the oldest symbols in human culture, the moon is associated with cycles, intuition, the feminine, and the passage of time. In its crescent form it speaks to beginnings, to the moment just before fullness, to potential held in quiet readiness. Paired with the warm, activating energy of carnelian, it creates a piece of considered duality: fire and water, action and reflection, the bold and the tender.

Wire wrapped by hand in gold vermeil, the setting follows the natural curve of the crescent, holding the stone securely while allowing its full carved form and its banding to remain visible and unobstructed. Gold vermeil; sterling silver with a substantial layer of of 24K gold brings a warmth to the piece that sits in natural harmony with the deep, burnt orange of the carnelian.

Finished on an 18 inch gold vermeil fine curb chain, a classic, lightweight length that sits beautifully at the collarbone, worn alone or layered with other pieces from the collection.

Handcrafted at Rachel Hartley Atelier. Arrives gift-ready.
