Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Not every stone needs to be transformed. This aquamarine arrives as it was found, raw and uncut to the face, its surface carrying the quiet evidence of how it grew.

Aquamarine belongs to the beryl family, the same mineral group as emerald and morganite, and forms in hexagonal crystals of remarkable clarity. Its colour ranges from the palest, almost colourless blue to a deeper, more saturated aqua, and the finest stones carry a quality of light that is genuinely difficult to describe, cool, still, and luminous all at once. This pendant uses a raw crystal rather than a cut or polished stone, meaning the face retains every natural ridge, veil, and surface variation exactly as it formed. The reverse has been ground flat and smooth so the stone sits comfortably against the skin without catching or shifting. Raw aquamarine of wearable quality is less commonly seen than its faceted counterpart, and each crystal is entirely its own. Colour depth, internal veiling, and surface character will vary from piece to piece.

Aquamarine has long been associated with the throat chakra and the element of water. It is considered a stone of calm and clarity, one that quiets the mind without dulling it, and encourages honest, considered communication. It is said to support those who find it difficult to speak their truth, dissolving the anxiety that sits between thought and expression. It is also associated with courage of a quieter kind: the steadiness to remain clear under pressure, and the emotional balance that comes from seeing a situation without distortion. Sailors once carried it as a talisman of safe passage. It remains, in every sense, a stone of still water.

The crystal is held at its crown in a hand-finished sterling silver surround and bail, a setting that secures without overwhelming, keeping the full face of the stone open and unobstructed. Paired with an 18-inch sterling silver fine curb chain, slender and understated, sitting close to the collarbone and letting the pendant carry the piece. Sterling silver throughout.
