Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral, its colour an intense, saturated green that ranges from pale mint to deep forest, banded in concentric rings and swirling patterns that are entirely unique to each stone. The banding is formed as the mineral grows in layers, each ring a record of the conditions present during crystallisation, and no two pieces of malachite display the same pattern. It is found primarily in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and Russia, and has been used in jewellery, pigment, and decoration since ancient Egypt. Faceted, it holds its colour with exceptional depth, the green shifting between light and dark as the stone moves.

Malachite is associated with transformation, protection, and the heart chakra, the energy centre governing love, compassion, and emotional openness. It is said to absorb negative energy and draw out emotional patterns that no longer serve, making it a stone often associated with change and growth. It is also one of the oldest protective stones in recorded use, worn as a talisman against harm across cultures from ancient Egypt to medieval Europe. A stone with both beauty and intention.

The hamsa hand is one of the oldest protective symbols in the world, found across Middle Eastern, North African, and Mediterranean cultures for thousands of years. Representing the open hand of protection, it is worn as a talisman against negative energy and as a symbol of strength, blessing, and good fortune. Paired with malachite, itself one of the oldest protective stones, the combination carries a layered and considered meaning.

These earrings feature sterling silver hamsa hand charms, each with a drop detail of faceted malachite beads and sterling silver accent beads suspended below. The faceted malachite catches the light with every movement, the deep banded green shifting against the cool silver in a pairing that is both striking and grounded. The whole design hangs from sterling silver V-shaped earwires, a clean, elegant finish that keeps the focus on the charm and the drop.

Set in sterling silver, chosen for its quality, its durability, and its cool, clear tone, a considered complement to the rich green of the malachite.
