Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

A large oval purpurite cabochon, set in sterling silver and worn on an 18 inch fine curb chain. Rare, deeply coloured, and entirely its own.

Purpurite is one of the rarer gemstones in commercial jewellery, a manganese iron phosphate mineral found in only a handful of locations worldwide, primarily Namibia, Australia, and the United States. Its relative scarcity means it is far less commonly seen than stones such as amethyst or charoite, and pieces of wearable quality are genuinely limited. Its colour ranges from a vivid magenta-purple to a deeper, more muted violet, often with streaks and variations of pink, burgundy, and grey running through the stone. No two pieces are alike. The surface has a slightly velvety, matte quality in its natural state, and the cabochon cut draws out the depth and movement of the colour without the distraction of faceting, a stone that rewards the wearer who seeks something genuinely uncommon.

Purpurite is associated with the third eye and crown chakras, and is considered one of the more powerful stones for spiritual clarity and the expansion of awareness. It is said to dissolve self-doubt and the patterns of thought that keep the wearer stuck, encouraging a direct and honest engagement with one’s own truth. It is associated with transformation, with the courage to speak and act from a place of genuine conviction, and with the kind of clarity that comes not from certainty but from a willingness to see clearly. It is also said to support those in creative or spiritual practice, bringing focus and a sense of elevated perspective.

The pendant is set in sterling silver with a setting that follows the oval form of the stone, holding it securely while keeping the full face of the cabochon open to the light. Paired with an 18 inch sterling silver fine curb chain, a classic, understated chain that sits close to the collarbone and lets the pendant speak for itself. Sterling silver throughout.
