I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Moonstone is a feldspar mineral, its most remarkable quality a phenomenon known as adularescence: a floating, billowing light that moves across the surface of the stone as it is turned, appearing to come from within rather than from any external source. In high grade white moonstone, this inner light takes on a blue flash, a vivid, electric blue that shifts and moves with the angle of the light, appearing and disappearing as the stone moves. It is caused by the interference of light between the alternating layers of feldspar within the stone, and no two stones display it in quite the same way. The finest stones are found in Sri Lanka, India, and Myanmar, and the blue flash is the quality marker that separates exceptional moonstone from the ordinary.

Moonstone has been associated with the moon, with intuition, and with the feminine for thousands of years, worn in ancient Rome and India as a stone of mystery and inner knowing. It is associated with the crown and third eye chakras, and in energy work is said to support intuition, emotional clarity, and the ability to move through cycles of change with grace. It is a stone of the in-between, of thresholds and transitions, of the light that appears when you look at things from a different angle. A stone that rewards attention.

This pendant centres on a single high grade white moonstone teardrop, selected for the quality and intensity of its blue flash: a stone that shifts from translucent white to vivid blue as it catches the light. Set in sterling silver, the teardrop shape gives the pendant an elegant, elongating quality that sits beautifully at the neckline. The pendant measures 30mm in length, a considered size that makes a presence without overwhelming. It hangs from a sterling silver 18 inch fine curb chain, a clean, considered length that works equally well worn alone or layered. Refined enough for everyday wear, considered enough for an occasion.
