Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Aquamarine is a variety of beryl, its colour produced by trace amounts of iron within its crystal structure, yielding a range from the palest, almost colourless sky blue to a deeper, more saturated blue-green that carries the quality of clear ocean water in strong light. It is found in Brazil, Pakistan, Madagascar, and Mozambique, among other locations, and the finest stones are prized for the evenness and depth of their colour and the exceptional clarity that beryl can achieve. It is a stone with a long history at sea, carried by sailors as a talisman of safe passage and calm waters, and its association with the ocean is not merely poetic: the colour itself seems to hold something of the sea, that particular quality of light on moving water that is impossible to fully describe and immediately recognisable.

Aquamarine is associated with the throat chakra and with the energy of calm, clarity, and honest communication. It is said to soothe anxiety and bring a cooling, clarifying quality to the mind, supporting those who need to speak with both precision and compassion. It is also associated with courage, particularly the quieter kind: the courage to be honest, to remain clear under pressure, and to trust one's own perception. A stone of serene authority.

These hoops are made entirely by hand, each one formed from sterling silver square wire shaped into a circle, the flat faces of the wire catching the light as the earring moves and giving the hoop a subtle, faceted quality of its own. Individual faceted aquamarine stones are then wire wrapped along the length of the hoop by hand, each stone secured in its own neat wrap of sterling silver wire, spaced along the curve so that the stones follow the arc of the hoop from one end to the other. The hoops measure 30mm inside diameter, a generous size that sits with presence without being unwearable. The result is a hoop that is both intricate and considered, the blue of the aquamarine moving in and out of the light as the earring turns, each stone a small point of colour and clarity within the whole. The completed hoops hang from sterling silver earwires, a clean, simple fitting that keeps the focus on the craftsmanship of the hoop itself.
