Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Topaz is a silicate mineral found in pegmatite formations across Brazil, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Russia. Blue topaz is produced through irradiation treatment applied to natural topaz, a standard and permanent process that draws out the stone's latent colour. The result is a stone of exceptional clarity, its blue clean and even, with a brightness that comes not from surface treatment but from the quality of the crystal itself.

Blue topaz works primarily with the throat chakra, the energy centre associated with communication, truth, and self-expression. It is said to help those who find it difficult to articulate what they feel, to speak clearly, honestly, and without fear. It carries a light, expansive quality, associated with openness, calm, and the kind of mental clarity that comes from stepping back and seeing things as they are. It is thought to ease anxiety, support clear thinking, and encourage a sense of ease and flow. A stone for those who need to find their voice, or simply to quiet the noise long enough to hear it.

The emerald cut is chosen for stones of exceptional clarity. Its step-cut facets and rectangular form work with the crystal's transparency to draw light through the stone in long, clean flashes rather than the scattered brilliance of a round or cushion cut. In a stone of this quality, the result is a depth and luminosity that a cabochon or polished form cannot achieve. It is an architectural cut: precise, unhurried, and quietly confident. One that asks the stone to speak for itself.

This pendant features a blue topaz in an emerald cut of exceptional clarity, set in a sterling silver claw setting that holds the stone at its corners, allowing the maximum amount of light to enter and move through it. The claws are minimal and precise, keeping the focus entirely on the stone. Set on an 18 inch sterling silver fine curb chain, a lightweight, refined length that sits at the collarbone and allows the pendant to move naturally with the wearer.

A piece that rewards the light it is worn in.
