I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Smokey quartz is one of the most grounding stones in the mineral world. A variety of quartz coloured by natural irradiation acting on aluminium impurities within the crystal, its tone ranges from a pale, smoky grey to a deep, resinous brown, translucent, quiet, and deeply anchoring. It is a stone that carries weight without heaviness, a presence that steadies rather than overwhelms.

It is associated with the root chakra and long held as one of the most effective stones for transmuting negative energy. Smokey quartz is said to absorb stress, anxiety, and emotional heaviness, drawing it down and away from the body and releasing it into the earth. For those who feel scattered, overstimulated, or weighed down by the accumulation of daily life, it offers a calm, reliable anchor. It does not dazzle. It simply holds.

Copper is one of the oldest metals in human use, and one of the oldest in healing practice. It is considered a conductor of electricity, of warmth, and in crystal tradition, of energy itself. Copper is believed to amplify the properties of the stones it is paired with, directing their intention and supporting the smooth flow of energy through the body. It is associated with circulation, vitality, and a grounded physical warmth that makes itself felt over time.

Here, copper wire has been chosen deliberately. Its natural warm, rosy tone sits in close harmony with rose gold vermeil, creating a cohesive, considered palette while keeping the piece accessible. The two metals complement each other without competing, the copper doing the work of the wrap, the rose gold vermeil providing the chain.

This piece features a hand-selected smokey quartz stone, wire-wrapped by hand in copper in a spiral cage design that holds the stone securely while allowing its full depth of colour to remain visible. The cage wraps around the stone in considered coils, structured and intentional, with a quality of craft that rewards a closer look.

Finished on an 18 inch rose gold vermeil fine curb chain; sterling silver with a layer of 18 karat rose gold, the necklace sits beautifully at the collarbone, warm, grounding, and quietly striking.
