I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Tourmaline is one of the most chemically complex minerals in the gemstone world, a boron silicate whose extraordinary range of colour is the result of trace elements present during formation. Iron produces blues and greens, manganese gives rise to pinks and reds, and combinations of the two yield the full spectrum in between. It is found across Brazil, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Madagascar, and is prized above almost all other stones for its colour variety. No other gemstone family produces such a breadth of distinct, saturated hues within a single mineral species, each colour a separate stone in its own right, each one a record of the precise conditions under which that crystal grew.

Tourmaline is associated with the heart chakra and with a broad, inclusive energy that reflects its colour range. It is said to encourage compassion, creativity, and emotional balance, and is often held as a stone that supports those navigating complexity — in relationships, in creative work, or in the process of understanding themselves. Different colours carry their own additional associations: pink and red tourmaline with love and vitality, green with growth and renewal, blue with calm and communication. A collection of tourmalines in several colours holds all of these qualities together.

The clover is a symbol of good fortune across many cultures, its four-lobed form associated with luck, protection, and the rare alignment of circumstances that allows things to go well. As a jewellery form it carries a lightness and optimism, a piece worn not as a talisman in any heavy sense, but as a quiet acknowledgement that some things are worth hoping for.

This pendant is set in sterling silver with a rose gold vermeil finish; rose gold vermeil being sterling silver with a layer of solid 18K rose gold.  Five individually coloured tourmaline stones sit at the centre, each a single, distinct hue, their collective range spanning the warmth and variety the mineral is known for. A decorative stone border frames the pendant adding brilliance and definition to the outer edge of the clover form. It is suspended on an 18 inch rose gold vermeil fine chain, a lightweight, warm-toned length that sits at the collarbone and allows the pendant to move naturally with the wearer.
