I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Tourmaline is a stone of extraordinary range; few minerals produce such a breadth of colour within a single species, and fewer still offer the pleasure of two distinct hues set side by side. This open band ring is built from a single length of sterling silver, its ends left open and gently curved to hold one stone at each tip: a pink tourmaline at one end and a green tourmaline at the other. The open form makes the ring naturally adjustable, fitting a range of sizes with ease, and gives it a lightness and elegance that a closed band cannot quite replicate.

Pink Tourmaline, associated with the heart chakra, is a stone of warmth, compassion, and emotional healing. It is believed to gently dissolve old emotional wounds, encourage self-love, and open the heart to connection, a stone that feels as tender as it looks. Green Tourmaline works with the heart chakra too, but from a different angle it is a stone of vitality, growth, and abundance, thought to bring a sense of renewal and forward momentum, and to support the physical heart as much as the emotional one. Together, the two colours create a balance of giving and receiving, of softness and strength, of the heart’s full range.

Tourmaline belongs to a complex family of boron silicate minerals, its extraordinary colour range the result of trace elements, manganese for pink, iron and chromium for green that vary from stone to stone and deposit to deposit. Each stone in this ring is individually selected for the clarity and saturation of its colour.
