I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Garnet is one of the most varied stone families in the mineral world. Where many gemstones are defined by a single colour, garnet spans an extraordinary range from the deep forest greens of Tsavorite and Demantoid, to the warm burnt orange of Spessartine, to the rich amber and cognac tones of Hessonite. Each variety is a distinct mineral in its own right, sharing a crystal structure but expressing it in an entirely different palette.

Garnet is a silicate mineral group, its many varieties are formed under conditions of intense heat and pressure in metamorphic and igneous rock. It has been prized since antiquity for its brilliance and depth of colour. Across its varieties, garnet is associated with vitality, grounding, and creative energy. The green garnets Tsavorite and Demantoid carry the energy of growth, renewal, and abundance, working with the heart chakra to encourage compassion and connection. The orange Spessartine is associated with creativity, confidence, and joy, linked to the sacral chakra and thought to inspire bold, expressive energy. The amber and cognac tones of Hessonite are connected to warmth, self-worth, and a grounded sense of purpose, working with the root and sacral chakras to encourage stability and forward momentum.

This pendant brings together four polished garnet stones in a considered mix of greens, orange, and amber with the stones arranged to move through a natural gradient from yellow-green to green, through to orange and into amber. Each stone is chosen for the richness of its individual tone and the way the colours flow together as a whole. They are hand-wire-wrapped in sterling silver, the wire following the natural curves of each stone and binding them into a considered drop design. A sterling silver accent bead sits at the bail, adding a clean, finished detail where the pendant meets the chain. The rounded forms catch light from every angle, the warmth and depth of the garnets shifting as the piece moves. It is suspended on an 18 inch fine silver curb chain, a classic, lightweight length that sits beautifully at the collarbone.
