Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Blue water jade is one of the most quietly compelling stones in the mineral world. A variety of jade prized for its cool, blue-grey tones, it carries the watery stillness of a deep lake on a still morning; calm, luminous, and entirely unhurried. Its surface is smooth and softly lustrous, with a depth of colour that shifts between pale blue and grey-green depending on the light, and a translucency that gives it an almost liquid quality when held up to the sun.

Jade has been revered across East Asian cultures for thousands of years, longer than almost any other gemstone.  Worn as a stone of protection, wisdom, and good fortune, and considered in many traditions to be the most precious of all minerals. In its blue variety, it carries an additional quality of calm and clarity, associated with the throat and heart chakras and with the ability to see and speak truthfully without the distortion of emotion. It is a stone for those who wish to move through the world with a quiet, grounded authority, present, clear, and at ease.

This pendant features a donut-cut blue water jade, its smooth, domed surface and open centre allowing the full depth of the stone’s colour to remain visible from every angle. Wire wrapped by hand in 18ct gold vermeil, the setting follows the curve of the stone in deliberate, even coils, holding it securely while allowing its cool lustre to speak for itself. A single gold vermeil accent bead sits at the bail, a small, considered detail that brings a clean and polished finish to the piece. The warm tone of the gold vermeil sits in considered contrast with the cool blue-grey of the jade, a pairing that feels both grounding and refined.

Finished on an 18 inch gold vermeil fine curb chain, a classic, lightweight length that sits beautifully at the collarbone, worn alone or layered with other pieces from the collection. Set in gold vermeil; sterling silver with a thick layer of 24K gold, chosen for its quality and longevity, a step above plated jewellery and a considered alternative to solid gold.
