I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

A handmade ring centring on a single amber stone, held in gold vermeil wire that traces the contour of the stone to form a frame around it. The wire work is as much a part of the design as the stone itself, the gold catching the light at the amber’s edges, giving the ring a warmth and intimacy that only handmade work can achieve. 

Amber is not a mineral but an organic gem, fossilised tree resin formed over millions of years. Its colour ranges from pale honey to deep cognac, and the way it holds light, glowing from within rather than reflecting from the surface, gives it a quality that is both ancient and immediate. Each piece is unique and may contain inclusions, air bubbles, or subtle colour variations that are part of its character rather than flaws.

Amber is associated with the sacral and solar plexus chakras, with warmth, vitality, and the clearing of stagnant energy. It is one of the oldest protective stones, worn across cultures as a talisman against negativity and a carrier of solar energy, said to bring lightness, confidence, and ease. It also carries associations with patience and the long view, holding as it does the memory of deep time within its resin.
