Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Two charms. Two materials. One piece that moves between the grounded and the luminous with an ease that feels entirely natural.

Smoky quartz is a variety of quartz whose characteristic colour, ranging from a pale, translucent grey-brown to a deep, rich chocolate is the result of natural irradiation acting on aluminium impurities within the crystal structure over millions of years. It is found across the world, from the granite mountains of Scotland and the Alps to the pegmatite deposits of Brazil and Madagascar, and it has been used as a gemstone and a talisman since antiquity. The Celts carved it into jewellery and ceremonial objects; the ancient Chinese used it for scrying. Associated with the root chakra, it is considered one of the most effective stones for absorbing and neutralising negative energy, transforming it rather than simply deflecting it. It supports those who need to stay anchored under pressure, to remain clear-headed in difficult circumstances, and to release what no longer serves them. The faceted charm draws out the full depth of the stone’s colour, its cut allowing light to move through the smoky translucency with a warm, understated brilliance that shifts with every movement of the wrist.

The freshwater pearl that accompanies it is one of nature’s most considered creations. Formed over years within freshwater molluscs, each pearl is unique, no two share the same surface, lustre, or overtone. Prized for their soft, creamy body colour and their characteristic orient, the subtle play of iridescence across the surface, freshwater pearls carry a warmth that no synthetic stone can replicate. They are also among the most durable of organic gems, making them as well-suited to daily wear as they are to occasion dressing.

Both charms hang from a gold vermeil cable chain bracelet, its open links giving the piece a lightness on the wrist that belies its quality. The bracelet measures 7.5 inches and, due to the nature of the open cable links, is adjustable across a range of wrist sizes.  Set in gold vermeil: sterling silver with a thick layer of 24 karat gold, chosen for its quality and longevity, a step above plated jewellery and a considered alternative to solid gold.

Handcrafted at Rachel Hartley Atelier. Arrives gift-ready.
