I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Labradorite is a stone that conceals its nature until the moment it chooses to reveal it. On the surface it appears dark, almost unremarkable, a deep grey-green with a quiet, muted lustre. Then the light catches it, and the colour appears: vivid flashes of blue, teal, gold, and violet that seem to come from somewhere deep within the stone, shifting and moving as the angle changes. This phenomenon, known as labradorescence, is caused by light refracting between microscopic layers of feldspar within the stone, and in quality specimens, it is immediate and unmistakable. No two stones display it in quite the same way. The play of colour is entirely its own.

Labradorite is associated with the third eye chakra and with the energy of transformation and inner vision. It is considered a stone of magic and protection, one that is said to strengthen intuition, reveal hidden truths, and support those who are navigating change or seeking to see beyond the surface of things. It carries a paradoxical quality, grounding and expansive at once that makes it one of the most compelling stones to wear close to the body. A stone for those who trust what they cannot always explain.

This bangle centres on a large oval labradorite stone, chosen for the quality and intensity of its labradorescence, set in claw settings that hold the stone securely while leaving its full face open to the light, allowing the colour to shift and move with every movement of the wrist. The band is open-ended and fully adjustable, shaped to sit comfortably across a range of wrist sizes, and designed to be worn at the wrist or slid higher up the arm depending on the mood and the moment. The brass base is finished with an 18 karat gold plate, free from cadmium and lead, with excellent durability and a fine jewellery finish. The warm gold tone sits in striking contrast to the dark, shifting surface of the labradorite, the brightness of the metal making the stone’s inner colour all the more vivid when it appears. The result is a piece that is both bold and considered, elemental material held in refined metalwork, worn as a talisman or simply as a statement.
