I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Carnelian is one of the oldest stones in human history. Worn by ancient Egyptians as a symbol of life and protection, carried by Roman soldiers for courage in battle, and prized across cultures for thousands of years, it is a stone with a long memory and a particular kind of presence.

Its colour ranges from pale apricot to deep burnt orange, the warmth drawn from iron oxide within the stone. Carnelian forms in layers, which means no two beads are identical. Each one holds its own depth of tone and its own quality of light.

Carnelian is associated with vitality, courage, and creative energy. It is said to stimulate and ground simultaneously, encouraging action without recklessness, and motivation without anxiety. It works with the sacral and root chakras, supporting a sense of confidence and forward momentum that feels embodied rather than forced.

This necklace is hand strung with polished carnelian beads, each one chosen for its warmth and translucency. Sterling silver accent beads punctuate the design at considered intervals, their cool metallic tone a quiet counterpoint to the fire of the stone.

Finished at 18 inches in sterling silver, it sits beautifully, grounding and quietly special, worn daily or saved for when it matters.
