I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Black Tourmaline in Quartz is a stone of striking contrast, dark, needle-like crystals of black tourmaline suspended within clear or milky quartz, each piece entirely its own. No two stones are alike. The inclusions shift and scatter through the matrix in ways that feel almost deliberate, as though the stone has arranged itself for the eye. It is a stone that rewards close attention. The AAA grade stones used in this ring are selected for the clarity of the quartz matrix, the depth and definition of the tourmaline inclusions, and the precision of their faceting.

Black Tourmaline, known also as Schorl, is one of the most widely used protective stones in the crystal tradition. Associated with the root chakra, it is believed to create a powerful energetic shield, deflecting and transmuting negative energy before it can take hold. It is a stone of grounding and security, thought to anchor the wearer firmly in the present, ease anxiety, and support a calm, clear-headed sense of safety.

Clear Quartz, the matrix in which the tourmaline grows, is considered the master healer of the mineral kingdom, a stone that amplifies the energy of whatever it surrounds. Here, it magnifies the protective and grounding qualities of the tourmaline, while adding its own properties of clarity, focus, and energetic cleansing. Together, they make a combination that is both visually arresting and deeply purposeful.

This ring is built around a sterling silver chevron band, its angled form clean and architectural, designed to sit beautifully alone or stacked. From it, a faceted oval AAA grade Black Tourmaline in Quartz stone is suspended in fine silver wire wrapping, hanging like a charm from the band. The effect is delicate and considered; the stone moves with you, catching light as it goes.
