Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

The pull of deep water. The stillness before a wave breaks. This is a bracelet that moves the way the sea does, quietly, constantly, and with a force that is felt rather than seen.

Aquamarine opens and anchors the piece, appearing in two forms: faceted and round. A variety of beryl coloured by trace amounts of iron within the crystal structure, its colour ranges from a pale, glassy sky blue to a deeper, more saturated teal, and it has been prized since antiquity as a stone of the sea. Roman sailors carried it as a talisman of safe passage; medieval physicians prescribed it as a remedy for ailments of the spirit. Its name means, simply, water of the sea. Associated with the throat chakra, it is considered a stone of clear communication, calm courage, and the kind of honest, unhurried expression that comes from a place of inner stillness. The faceted beads draw out the full clarity of the stone, scattering light with a clean, refractive brilliance; the rounds carry a softer, more contemplative quality.

Selenite brings its characteristic inner glow. Named for Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, it is a form of gypsum that is almost entirely translucent, its surface carrying a soft, pearlescent luminosity that seems to radiate from within rather than reflect from without. It does not flash or refract; it simply holds light, quietly and consistently. Associated with the crown chakra and the energy of the moon, it is considered a stone of clarity, cleansing, and elevated awareness, one that creates a sense of calm, open space around the wearer.

Blue water jade holds the depth of the piece. Prized across East Asian cultures for thousands of years, jade in its blue-grey variety carries a cool, watery stillness that feels both ancient and immediate. Associated with wisdom, balance, and the throat and heart chakras, it encourages honest expression and a calm, grounded perspective. Its smooth, quietly luminous surface provides a visual anchor for the more refractive stones that surround it.

Labradorite completes the bracelet with its extraordinary inner light. On the surface, it appears dark, almost unremarkable, until the light catches it and the colour appears: vivid flashes of blue, teal, and silver that seem to come from somewhere deep within the stone. This phenomenon, known as labradorescence, is caused by light refracting between microscopic layers of feldspar, and in quality stones, it is immediate and unmistakable. Associated with the third eye chakra, labradorite is a stone of transformation, intuition, and the ability to see what lies beneath the surface of things, a fitting companion for a bracelet that is itself full of hidden depth.

Sterling silver accent beads complete the piece, their cool, precise tone sitting in close harmony with the aquatic palette and adding a considered finish that grounds the natural variation of the stones.

Strung on stretch cord and made to fit the average UK women’s wrist size of 6.5 inches, easy to wear and comfortable to keep on.
