Welcome to Rachel Hartley Atelier

I am delighted to introduce my new home for handcrafted artisan gemstone jewellery, where every piece is created with intention, craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of exceptional gemstones.

I’m Rachel Hartley, founder and jewellery designer of Rachel Hartley Atelier. With years of experience studying and working with the healing properties and energy of crystals, my knowledge of gemstone selection extends beyond aesthetics. Each stone is chosen not only for its beauty and individuality, but also for the qualities it is believed to embody.

Every design begins with the gemstone. I work with carefully selected stones, combining them with sterling silver, gold vermeil, and copper to create jewellery that is both timeless and deeply personal.

Each piece is handcrafted in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every creation reflects the care, skill, and intention invested in its making. This is not mass-produced jewellery. It is created slowly, one piece at a time, for those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and meaningful design.

Amethyst is a variety of quartz, its violet colour the result of iron and natural irradiation present during crystallisation. Found across Brazil, Uruguay, Zambia, and South Korea, it has been prized for millennia, worn by ancient Greeks as a talisman against intoxication, used by medieval European soldiers as a stone of protection, and placed in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs. AAA grade amethyst is selected for exceptional depth and evenness of colour, clarity, and the quality of its cut, stones that hold their richness across all light conditions.

Amethyst works primarily with the crown and third eye chakras, supporting intuition, clarity of mind, and a deepened connection to inner wisdom. It is one of the most widely used stones for meditation and spiritual work, said to quiet mental noise, ease anxiety, and create a sense of calm clarity in those who wear or work with it. It is associated with protection, purification, and the ability to see situations clearly without the distortion of fear or emotion. A stone for those who are seeking stillness, perspective, or a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.

A faceted cabochon occupies an interesting position between two traditions. The cabochon form, domed, smooth, and uncut has been used for thousands of years, valued for the way it allows colour and depth to speak without interruption. Faceting introduces a different quality: the cut surfaces catch and return light with precision, adding brilliance to the stone's natural richness. A faceted cabochon combines both, the rounded form of the cabochon with the light-catching quality of a faceted surface. In a deep violet amethyst of AAA grade, the effect is considerable.

This pendant features a faceted amethyst cabochon of AAA grade, set in a sterling silver claw setting that holds the stone securely while keeping its surface fully visible. The claws are minimal and precise, allowing the stone's colour and faceting to remain the focus. Set on an 18 inch sterling silver flat cable chain, a lightweight, refined length that sits at the collarbone and allows the pendant to move naturally with the wearer.

A piece with depth, in every sense.
